Relationship Retreats

Learn how to make your relationship work in one of our retreats at Navarre Beach, Florida

Couples don’t  realize how far apart they’ve grown until it’s too late. It’s easy to take the relationship for granted, become complacent and lose that connection you had when it was brand new. Worst, unhappy couples don’t handle conflict well. They argue over money, kids, household chores, sex, and in-laws.
As irritation builds, resentment accumulates, and distance follows, eventually almost everything is interpreted negatively.
Does any of this sound familiar??

Yep, things are headed for a breakup, but
THANKFULLY research shows you don’t have to go out like that.

For more than 30 years, Dr. John Gottman, Ph.D. observed and analyzed the habits of married couples. By identifying patterns and behaviors, he was able to establish a method of correcting the issues that caused problems in relationships. Dr. Gottman has written a New York Times best seller, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. During the retreat, I’ll provide tools to help you:

  • Improve Friendship, Fondness, and Admiration
  • Enhance Romance and Intimacy
  • Share a Deeper Connection with Your Partner
  • Manage Conflict Constructively
  • Come out the rut of dealing with the same problems to no end
  • Solve Your Solvable Problems
  • Create Shared Meaning
  • Maintain Gains Throughout a Lifetime

What if you could...

Restore the love and committment you once had?

Our Gottman method couples retreat will refill your heart and allows you to have hope again. Whether your relationship is suffering from an affair or you want to improve the healthy bond you already have, you’ll find that our relationship retreat offers a place for healing and growth. hi! i'm roslyn ashford,

a counselor at Crossroads Christian Professional Counseling in Laurel and Hattiesburg. I’m from Ellisville, Mississippi and have two children.  I earned my Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees from Jackson State University. My Master’s of Science is in Community Counseling. Then, I earned my Ph.D. in Instructional Technology and Design from the University of Southern Mississippi.

I became fascinated with working to understand and improve the quality of relationships for all families.  I especially enjoy working with couples to strengthen their relationships. Why? Because God created this union for His purpose, which has been weakened by many spiritual and physical attacks. My way of changing the world is to help make that union strong again. My ultimate goal is for all children to benefit from their parents’ foundation so they become healthy adults.

Being prepared to serve is important to me. I am a Board Certified Counselor through the NBCC, a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor in Mississippi, and have completed Level two of Gottman Method Couples Therapy.  My current professional goal is to become a certified Gottman Couples Therapist.

I would classify myself as a type A person and use my optimism and adventurous nature to seek out ways to help others! That’s why I’m excited to have completed professional trainings through the Gottman Institute.  I am a Gottman 7 Principles Leader and Bringing Baby Home Educator. My background helps me to create exciting opportunities in the Southern United States for couples of all ages and stages.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have all the signs of divorce.  Is there any hope for us?
Yes! About 10% of Unbreakable Relationship Retreats talk about predictors of divorce, but the rest of the weekend is focused on providing tools for couples to improve their relationships. Couples who exhibit many of the signs of divorce may experience relationship deterioration if they don’t make changes.  If they do make changes, their relationship satisfaction can be significantly improved.

It seems like an overwhelming task.  Is change really possible?
Dr. Gottman says that couples do not need to overhaul their entire relationship or change their personalities.  A small change in the trajectory of a relationship over time can make a huge difference.  Dr. Gottman used the example of aiming a rocket toward the moon.  Being off a couple degrees can result in missing the moon by a wide margin.  Just as a small correction in the path of the rocket can result in hitting the target, so small changed in the direction of a relationship can bring large rewards.

My partner doesn’t believe in counseling.  How can we benefit from this program if he’s not willing to open up?
Unbreakable Relationship Retreats may be less threatening than couples therapy because they’re edu-tainment. This fits into an enrichment model that couples may be familiar with.  It is not a substitute for therapy, but can soften the entry into working on your relationship and getting help without the stigma that some have toward seeking therapy.  The basic concepts and methods used at Unbreakable Relationship Retreats provide a strong foundation of the Gottman perspective, which may enhance and expedite a therapeutic process later.

How can a weekend retreat save our relationship?
The saving is up to you.  But the program, for sure, provides structure, motivation, and accountability to continue working through the book.  A class format encourages more active involvement and ongoing participation by following a schedule.  AND it can be more encouraging to work on your relationship in the context of other couples that are doing the same thing.

We’re not married or engaged.  Do we qualify to participate?
Honey yessssss! Oh the joys if every couple would properly prepare for a successfully intoxicating relationship! Unbreakable Relationship Retreats provide a great opportunity for pre-marital couples at every level to learn skills that can enrich their relationship through a lifetime together.  If you’re thinking about staying together, this is definitely for you.

Will we have to share our personal problems with others?

No. The program format includes lectures and private couple exercises.  You will never have to disclose personal issues in front of others.

When is the deadline to register for a retreat?

You may register up to three weeks before an event. However, spacing is limited. And, easy pay plans require registering at least two to four months before the event.  The last day to register for Unbreakable at Navarre Beach with the discount is  Monday, September 30, 2019 at midnight. Final day to register is Friday, October 18, 2019.

I’d like to read about Dr. Gottman’s research.  Do you have references?

Dr. Gottman’s research is described and listed on the http://www.gottman.com website.
